Asian Games end: Uzbekistan 5th with 21 golds, Kazakhstan 8th with 84 medals

The 20th Asian Games, held in Japan's Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya from 19 September to 4 October, have ended. Uzbekistan was the best-performing Turkic state with 21 gold, 25 silver and 24 bronze — 70 medals in all — finishing fifth in the medal table.

Kazakhstan came eighth with 12 gold, 24 silver and 48 bronze (84 in total). Kyrgyzstan won 1 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze (14 in total), and Turkmenistan took 2 silver medals. The Kyrgyz team returned home on 5 October.

China topped the medal table with 169 golds, ahead of hosts Japan and South Korea.
