Turkmenistan is marking 120 years since the birth of the writer and poet Nurmyrat Saryhanov. To mark the occasion, Magtymguly Turkmen State University held a creative meeting titled “Ýagşyny ýatlap...” (“Remembering good people...”).

The event was devoted to Saryhanov's novella “Shukur Bakhshi” and the film based on it. Professor Amandurdy Khandurdyyev played the lead role in the film, and the meeting also honoured his memory; he was a doctor of technical sciences and a laureate of the International Magtymguly Prize.

Students of the Turkmen Language and Literature faculty presented a literary-musical piece based on the novella and an artistic reading called “Ballad of the Sun.” A dutar player from the university's “Bagtyýarlyk owazlary” cultural centre performed a melody from the film. Researchers of the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences, along with teachers and students, took part.
