The 150th anniversary of the birth of Ziya Gökalp, one of the most influential figures in Turkish intellectual history, has been marked with the “Ziya Gökalp Exhibition and Panel”, part of the National Library's “Treasures” series. Türkiye's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, spoke at the event.

The exhibition has five sections: Gökalp's life; his works and intellectual world; his influence on Turkish political life and his administrative posts; the reflections of his thought and writings about him; and press coverage of him. The items come from the National Library's own collections, including periodicals, books, photographs, postage stamps, posters, postcards and archival documents.

His poems, essays, first editions and his contribution to children's literature are also on show. Minister Ersoy spoke of the ideas Gökalp developed on Turkish identity, language, culture, education and the vision of civilisation, and invited everyone interested in Turkish history, culture and literature to visit. The series has been running for a year as part of the library's 80th anniversary.
