Kazan marks Sofia Gubaidulina's 95th anniversary with an exhibition of artists inspired by her music, open until 15 November

Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, is marking the 95th anniversary of Sofia Gubaidulina, one of the world's most celebrated composers. She was born on 24 October 1931 in Chistopol, Tatarstan. The celebrations are held as part of the jubilee festival “Sofia's Sounding House”.
Since 23 October the exhibition halls of the Kazan City Hall (Ratusha) have hosted the international exhibition “Artists to Sofia Gubaidulina”, running until 15 November. It shows paintings and graphic works by Russian and foreign artists inspired by the musical images of the composer. Her music plays in the halls and documentaries on her life and work are screened. The organisers are the Sofia Gubaidulina Centre of Contemporary Music together with the Union of Artists of Russia and Tatarstan.
The jubilee also brings new recordings: a piano cycle for children, “A Visit to Little Sofia”, made up of five miniatures, is due on digital platforms. Its pieces are titled “Little Sofia”, “Beloved Piano”, “Sounding Space”, “Starry Sky” and “Wonders of the Universe”.
