Mirziyoyev and Rosatom chief review Uzbekistan's first nuclear plant: first reactor foundation laid

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Alexey Likhachev, director general of the Rosatom State Corporation, on 23 October. They discussed the construction of Uzbekistan's first nuclear power plant and the infrastructure needed to support it.
Both sides welcomed progress on the foundation of the first reactor building and on the plant's design work.
Staff training was also on the agenda: nuclear specialists are to be trained at the Tashkent branch of the MEPhI National Research Nuclear University and at Rosatom's own facilities.
They also looked at building a residential town near the plant for employees and their families, with energy-efficient housing and schools, healthcare and sports facilities.
