Aziz Sancar Museum opens in Savur, Mardin, the hometown of the Nobel laureate

A museum named after Nobel laureate Prof. Aziz Sancar opened to visitors on October 21 in the Savur district of Türkiye's Mardin province. Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun attended the opening ceremony together with Sancar himself.
The museum stands in the Sefa neighbourhood, in the historic mansion where the scientist was born and grew up. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism restored one floor of the building and converted it into the museum. Across three halls covering 395 square metres, it displays photographs from Sancar's life, medical instruments, diplomas, academic gowns, gifts, awards and files on his scientific work.
The Mardin Governorship plans to use the basement and upper floors as a reading room and science centre. Savur Mayor Engin Uğur Hamidi said a TÜBİTAK Science Center is planned for the ground floor, and Sancar said he would discuss support for the project with TÜBİTAK.
