Azerbaijani-Turkish pharmaceutical plant opens in Pirallahi: 60 million packs a year

On 5 October President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of a pharmaceutical plant run by Gen Pharma Caucasus Manufacturing Operations at the Pirallahi Industrial Park. Its shareholders are Türkiye's Gen İlaç (66%), the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund (29%) and Türkiye's SİA Pharmaceuticals (5%).
The project cost 113.9 million manat. The 5.2-hectare plant can produce 60 million packs of medicine a year, including 2.5 billion tablets and capsules — drugs for heart, nervous system, diabetes and digestive conditions, as well as painkillers and antibiotics.
The company plans to localise production of more than 500 medicines within five years and to export to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and other countries. The plant also hosts a training base for Karabakh University and Azerbaijan Medical University.
The Pirallahi Industrial Park was set up in 2016 to develop the pharmaceutical industry and reduce dependence on imported medicines. Azerbaijan now has eight industrial parks.
