President Ilham Aliyev and family tour “My Absheron”, a retrospective marking painter Farhad Khalilov's 80th birthday

On 27 October a retrospective titled “My Absheron: Come On” opened at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art in Baku to mark the 80th birthday of People's Artist Farhad Khalilov. President Ilham Aliyev, First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva and their daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva toured the show.

The exhibition is a joint project of the Ministry of Culture, the National Museum of Art and the Azerbaijan Artists' Union. More than 90 works from the painter's own collection trace his path from the 1960s to the present, from large monumental canvases to small-format graphics.

Khalilov's style ranges from realism to the avant-garde and abstraction, but landscape remains his central subject, above all Absheron: its nature, coastline, villages, changing weather and atmosphere. The show also follows how this theme developed across his career.
