World Judo Championships in Baku: Ahmad Yusifov becomes world champion

On the opening day of the World Judo Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan's Ahmad Yusifov won gold in the men's 60kg, beating Kazakhstan's Sherzod Davlatov in the final.

It was an all-Turkic final: gold for Azerbaijan, silver for Kazakhstan. Davlatov's silver is Kazakhstan's first medal of the championships.

Trailing in the final, Yusifov levelled the score, driven on by a packed home crowd, and completed the comeback in groundwork — Azerbaijan's first ever world title at 60kg.

It was Yusifov's first world final and the host nation's first gold of the championships.
