Constitution and State Flag Day
A public holiday honouring Turkmenistan's Constitution and its green, carpet-patterned flag.

On 18 May 1992 the first Constitution of independent Turkmenistan was adopted, defining the country as a democratic, law-based and secular state. The state flag had been adopted on 19 February of the same year.
The flag of Turkmenistan is green; a vertical red stripe near the hoist carries the carpet guls of five tribes — Teke, Yomut, Ersari, Chowdur and Salyr — with olive branches beneath it and a white crescent and five stars beside it. It is the only flag in the world with a carpet design.
A joint holiday
18 May is celebrated in Turkmenistan as Constitution and State Flag Day. Flowers are laid at the Constitution monument opened in Ashgabat in 2011, and flag-raising ceremonies, conferences and concerts take place across the country.
