Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant
A hydropower plant under construction on the Naryn river that will be Kyrgyzstan's most powerful and one of Central Asia's largest.
Kambarata-1 is being built on the Naryn river in Toktogul District of Jalal-Abad Region as the top stage of the Naryn–Syr Darya cascade, 14 km upstream of the operating Kambarata-2 station.
Once finished it will be Kyrgyzstan's most powerful power station and help end the country's winter electricity shortages; its first unit is planned for 2028.
The project is of joint interest to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which share the water: water stored upstream can be released for irrigation downstream in summer.
