Kurash — Uzbek wrestling
An ancient Uzbek standing wrestling style using a towel-belt grip, now part of the Asian Games.

Kurash is the Uzbek form of the Turkic world's shared wrestling tradition — a sibling of Tatar köräş, Kazakh küres and Azerbaijani güləş. Wrestlers grip the towel-belt at each other's waist and try to throw the opponent off his feet.
There is no ground wrestling — the whole bout is fought standing. In the past it was the main contest at weddings, Navruz and festivities, with a horse or camel for the winner.
After independence kurash became an international sport with its world association founded in Tashkent, and at Jakarta in 2018 it joined the Asian Games programme for the first time. Referees' commands are given in Uzbek.
