Karpas Peninsula

A finger-like peninsula in the island's north-east, known for its wild donkeys, unspoilt beaches and national park.

The Karpas Peninsula is about 80 km long and 10–15 km wide, covering 817 km²; its main town is Dipkarpaz (Rizokarpaso) and it ends at Cape Zafer (Apostolos Andreas).

Sparsely populated, it has kept its nature well: the area around Dipkarpaz is a national park, with long golden beaches such as Golden Beach where sea turtles come to nest.

Its famous residents are hundreds of semi-wild Cyprus donkeys roaming freely and approaching visitors, and old churches and ruins draw history lovers too.
