Süleyman Demirel

Türkiye's ninth president (1924–2015), seven times prime minister and an active participant in Turkic world summits.

A hydraulic engineer who had headed the State Hydraulic Works, Süleyman Demirel led the Justice Party and the True Path Party and was prime minister seven times between 1965 and 1993.

He was elected president after Özal's death in 1993. Summits of Turkic-speaking states were held regularly during his term and the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline agreement was signed; he completed his term in 2000.
