Trans-Caspian internet cable between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to go live in October

Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiyev, told a government meeting on 6 October that 390 kilometres of fibre-optic cable have already been laid along the bed of the Caspian Sea, from the coast at Sumgait in Azerbaijan to Aktau in Kazakhstan. The line is due to be commissioned this month.
The Trans-Caspian fibre-optic line will create a direct high-speed data corridor between Asia and Europe, making both countries' international communications more reliable and boosting their transit potential. It is part of the effort to strengthen digital links along the Middle Corridor.
The minister also said more than 4,000 5G base stations have been installed in over 20 Kazakh cities.
