Erdoğan opens two new Istanbul University hospitals, with robotic surgery in Esenyurt and a 186-bed building in Çapa

On 17 October Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a joint opening and groundbreaking ceremony at the Çapa campus of Istanbul University's Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. A new 44,000 m² Internal Medicine Hospital opened in Çapa with 186 beds (39 of them intensive care), 56 outpatient clinics and 3 angiography units.
The faculty's new hospital on its Esenyurt campus has 200 patient beds and 50 intensive-care beds, including neonatal intensive care, and 12 operating theatres equipped for robotic surgery. Ground was also broken in Çapa for a 113-bed Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Surgery Hospital that will be built to withstand earthquakes on 74 seismic isolators.
Erdoğan said 206 health facilities worth 223 billion lira had opened in Istanbul so far, with a combined capacity of more than 45,000 beds, and that investment would reach 350 billion lira once ongoing projects are complete. He also announced that a call to recruit 38,000 non-physician health workers to the Health Ministry will be issued before the end of 2026.
