Cambodian Prime Minister makes first visit to Kazakhstan; six documents signed and Astana and Phnom Penh become sister cities

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held expanded talks in Astana on 17 October with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. It is Hun Manet's first visit to Kazakhstan, and Tokayev said it opened "a new chapter" in relations between the two countries, which this year mark 32 years of diplomatic ties.
The leaders adopted a Joint Statement and six documents were exchanged: memoranda on cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital development, digital government (GovTech), trade, culture and the arts, and tourism, as well as a memorandum establishing sister-city relations between Astana and Phnom Penh.
The talks covered high technology, artificial intelligence, food security, agriculture and manufacturing. Tokayev noted that more than 120 Cambodian students have studied in Kazakhstan, many of whom now serve in their country as provincial governors, secretaries of state and ministry officials. Hun Manet's delegation also visited the Alem.ai International AI Centre in Astana.
