Turkish students set a record at international science olympiads: 78 medals in 2026

Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced on 11 October that TÜBİTAK-supported students have won a total of 78 medals at international science olympiads in 2026 — the most in Türkiye's olympiad history, according to the minister.
Recent results include 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the 33rd Balkan Olympiad in Informatics in Tirana, 1 silver and 3 bronze at the 19th Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics in Sarajevo, and 2 silver and 2 bronze medals plus an honourable mention at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Hanoi.
Türkiye first took part in international science olympiads in 1978, winning one bronze medal that year. TÜBİTAK's olympiad programme selects and trains gifted students in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics and astronomy.
