Victory Day
On 30 August 1922 the decisive battle of the Great Offensive was won at Dumlupınar, settling the outcome of the War of Independence.

On the morning of 26 August 1922, on the order given by Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Pasha from Kocatepe near Afyon, the Turkish army launched the Great Offensive. The Battle of Dumlupınar (the Commander-in-Chief's Battle) on 30 August decided the outcome of the War of Independence.
After the battle Atatürk gave his historic order: "Armies! Your first goal is the Mediterranean — forward!" On 9 September 1922 the Turkish army entered İzmir. The victory opened the way to the Treaty of Lausanne and the founding of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923.
Victory Day
30 August has been celebrated as Victory Day since 1926 and is also Turkish Armed Forces Day. An official ceremony is held at Anıtkabir in Ankara, towns stage military parades, concerts and drone light shows, and people visit the Dumlupınar Martyrs' Memorial.
