June 4 1920· Anniversary
Day of National Unity
With the Treaty of Trianon of 4 June 1920 Hungary lost two-thirds of its territory. Since 2010 the day has celebrated the unity of all Hungarians, whatever the borders.

Under the Treaty of Trianon, signed on 4 June 1920 after the First World War, Hungary lost about two-thirds of its territory and more than half of its population; over three million Hungarians found themselves beyond the new borders overnight.
In 2010 the Hungarian Parliament passed a law declaring 4 June the Day of National Unity, a symbol of the unity of Hungarians everywhere regardless of borders. The National Unity Memorial near Parliament opened in 2020.
Remembrance
At 16:30, the moment the treaty was signed, church bells ring across the country; schools and towns hold commemorations, and Hungarian communities abroad gather.
