Meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) opened in Bishkek on October 19 and will run until October 20. The speaker of Kazakhstan's parliament arrived in the Kyrgyz capital the same day to take part.

Ahead of the event, Marlen Mamataliev, Speaker of Kyrgyzstan's Supreme Council (Jogorku Kenesh), met TURKPA Secretary General Ramil Hasan to discuss organisational matters. They covered the drafting of model laws, mechanisms for monitoring how adopted legislation is implemented, and wider cooperation with the parliaments of member states.

Bishkek had already hosted a TURKPA committee meeting in June this year, where deputies endorsed a model draft law on the protection of industrial property.
