Defenders of the Motherland Day
The Armed Forces of Uzbekistan were founded on 14 January 1992.

On 14 January 1992 independent Uzbekistan took all military units on its territory under its jurisdiction, laying the foundation of the national armed forces. Since 1993 the date has been celebrated as Defenders of the Motherland Day.
Uzbekistan's army is one of the strongest in Central Asia. Its historical roots go back to the military traditions of commanders such as Amir Timur and Jalal ad-Din Mingburnu; Amir Timur Square and museum in Tashkent symbolise that heritage.
How it is marked
Military units hold ceremonies, equipment exhibitions and concerts, and distinguished servicemen receive state awards. Schools hold patriotic lessons for young people.
