Pentecost (Pünkösd)
A Christian feast held 50 days after Easter; Whit Monday is a day off by law in Hungary.

Pentecost (Pünkösd) is a Christian feast held 50 days after Easter, so its date varies each year between May and June. In Hungary Whit Monday is a public holiday by law.
In Hungarian folk tradition Pünkösd welcomes summer and youth: villages keep old customs such as horse races to choose the "Pentecost king" and the girls' "Pentecost queen" procession.
The feast
Festive services are held in churches, and hundreds of thousands of Hungarian pilgrims gather at the shrine of Csíksomlyó in Transylvania.
